Speech Pathologists work with you to support the development of your child’s communication and feeding development. This may include how your child expresses themselves, understands language, uses speech sounds and develops early literacy skills.
Speech Pathologists also support the development of pre-language skills (such as imitation skills, cause and effect), social skills, pretend play skills and provide support to children with difficulties in eating and drinking.
We’ll provide your family with information and support on how to promote functional communication skills in everyday activities and routines. This supports children to communicate their wants and needs and interact with the world around them.
Sometimes alternative methods of communicating, such as using signs, visuals such as a communication board, or a specialised high-tech device with communication software will be recommended to assist a child with their communication.
